A relative of a man stabbed and seen lying in the street has asked a YouTuber to take down a message.

The video showed people aiding a man who had been attacked in Sheffield last month.

Prominent American YouTuber Karim Jovian posted the video with a caption stating,“This man was stabbed for being Muslim. This is days away from the "Punish A Muslim Day" #PunishAMuslimDay on April 3rd. Retweet this and make others aware. Please be careful out there What has happened to the UK?”

The post racked up thousands of views.

User @Nimxx who said she was a relative of the victim asked, “Could you pls delete this video... this is a family member of mine... and he was not stabbed for being Muslim. I’d really appreciate it if you could put it down pls. Since no mother or family member should be seeing this horrific moment. Jazak’Allah khair.”

Other users were keen to know why the video had not been deleted, Sev posted, “The girl has asked you multiple times to delete this video of her family member.

"This is low even for YOU. You’re spreading a false narrative and his family is having to watch the terrible incident multiple times on social platforms cos of people like you. Are retweets worth it?”

Another user posted, “We have been made aware of video that has been circulated via social media, this video relates to an Asian youth who has collapsed after being stabbed. The incident itself has occurred in the Sheffield area.”

Police said there was no evidence or indication to suggest the incident is hate related.

Investigating officer DC James Harding said: “A number of witnesses were spoken to at the scene following the incident and various leads and lines of enquiry have been followed up in the days since the attack, however I do believe there are additional witnesses who may be able to offer information that could prove vital to the investigation, and I would urge them to please come forward.

“We are also aware a video of the injured man after the attack has been circulating on social media. I would ask people to please consider the impact and distress this will have on both the victim and his family and friends, and refrain from sharing if at all possible.

“While the motive for the attack has not yet been determined, there is no evidence or indication to suggest the incident is hate related in any way.

“We are exploring potential CCTV footage and utilising forensics in a bid to further progress the investigation, as well as working with the victim.

“Did you witness the attack? Can you help identify those responsible? If you can assist I would encourage you to please make contact, either via 101 or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
