Working out can be repetitive which can cause boredom.

Boredom can cause people to give up easily and lack motivation. It’s important to try new things during your weight loss journey, keep it exciting, interesting and entertaining.

Group training classes are a brilliant way to stay motivated, you exercise to great music, have an instructor helping you without the extra added cost, you can take your friends, you are constantly learning and are in an environment of different strengths and abilities.

My journey started off with a class called Body Combat, since then I have tried a range of different classes.

I can honestly say I’m hooked and they have contributed to a significant amount of my weight loss. Here is a quick guide to my favourite gym classes.

1. Body Combat
Body combat a fun cardio workout which involves non-contact mixed martial arts, expect lots of kicking, punching, jumping and sweating.

In a typical class, you will start with warm up, followed by combat and power workouts (guards, jab, cross, hook, upper cut, front kick, roundhouse kick and side kick) and end with cool down.

The classes can be explosive, so remember to pace yourself and drink plenty of water! You can expect to burn around 400-700 calories during one session! (You don’t need any previous martial arts experience).

Body combat helps tone and shape key muscle groups, burn calories for a leaner body, improves posture, core strength and stability.

2. Spinning
Spinning is a high intensity indoor cycling workout that generally takes place in a spinning studio on a stationary bike.

The bike has gears that are changed throughout the class to change the weight of the push/pull and your legs are constantly moving.

Most spin classes last between 45-60 minutes and what a challenging 45-60 minutes they are! I advise you to take a towel along with you to this class because you will be working hard and will be dripping in sweat.

Spinning is a great way to improve your fitness levels, burn fat and build muscle. You can expect to burn between 300-700 calories depending on how hard you work.

3. Bodypump
Bodypump is a total body barbell workout for anyone wanting to get lean, toned and fit, fast. You will use light to moderate weights with lots of repetition.

The workout challenges all of your muscle groups by using the best weight room exercises such as squats, presses, lifts and curls.

If you’re unsure of weight training, definitely try this class! You will learn new techniques that you can incorporate into your own workouts.

Body pump uses specific music tracks to motivate you and push you through the class with maximum effect. You can expect to burn up to 560 calories in a 55 minute session.

Other great classes include Zumba, Body conditioning, Pilates and Yoga.

Join a class in your local area, have some fun and get fit!
