An Indian media company will offer women a "First Day of Period Leave."

The New Delhi based company Culture Machine aims to make their company a more female-friendly entity by launching this new initiative.

The new leave policy was announced by the company in a video posted on Facebook and YouTube which have subsequently gone viral.

.

The YouTube video features some of its female staff talking about how they feel on the first day of their periods and how they welcome this new policy.

One member of staff says, "Sometimes with male bosses, you have to be a little discreet. It gets slightly awkward."

Another employee said that she was often told by male colleagues that "PMS is something that is in your head."

The company writes, “Everyone knows that men and women are biologically different. However, the real progress of the human civilisation can only occur when we understand and honour these differences.

“Why should menstruation, for instance, an integral biological process that a woman goes through in her lifetime, be kept hidden?

“It's no secret that period cramps are the worst, but over the years women have had to show up at work and mask their pain with silly excuses.”

Culture Machine will deliver a petition to India’s Ministry of Woman and Child Development and Ministry of Human Resource Development in a bid to ensure that “the rest of the women in India have the same right.”
