In a year when being a Muslim in the United States has come in sharp focus one group of friends have shared these amazing images travelling across the country.

Their visits began in New York and the route has taken in the cities of Chicago and St Louis.

They have travelled across along the historic Route 66 to Albuquerque and spent several days at the Grand Canyon hiking.

Before their visit some had reservations, in a period when anti-Muslim propaganda had reached fever pitch with Presidential hopeful Donald Trump leading the way.

Trump this week began his election campaign by breaking a major American political and societal taboo when he engaged in a feud with Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the bereaved parents of a decorated Muslim captain of the US army who was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq.
