An Indian bride from Mahoba has made headlines after she refused to marry the groom after she found him in an inebriated state just ahead of the wedding ceremony on April 28.

The woman, in her early 20s walked out of her wedding after seeing her fiance drunk and arguing with her siblings and other guests over DJ music.

According to The Times of India, the bride's father said: "She refused to marry the man who was drunk. I did not force her to marry against her wishes.

"The marriage party was looking like a party of drunken people. My daughter could not tolerate that the boy who is going to be her better half should come in an inebriated state. She could not digest that after taking liquor the groom should utter abusive words to her relatives."

The groom reportedly said, "We returned home because the wedding was called off. I don't know why the wedding was called off."

After the barat was returned, the groom's family took the matter to the police. The matter, however was swiftly dismissed.

The bride's father further added, "What can police do, if a girl refuses to marry a drunk man."
