A story about a sharia compliant halal sex shop selling ‘Islamically-approved’ sex products opening in Makkah has been labelled a fabrication.

It was reported El Asira, an erotic brand which first opened in Amsterdam, is branching out to Islam’s holiest city it as reported.

Founder Abdelaziz Aouragh said: “Our products do include items that increase feelings of sensuality and improve the atmosphere between the couple in the sexual relationship between them.”

According to elasira.com, all their products are entirely “Sharia compliant” and claim they can “provide a deeper meaning to sexuality, sensuality and even spirituality.”

All products have been verified as “halal”, which means they are permissible according to Islamic law.

“All our products are maintaining the integrity, pure humanity and ethics inherent with the Sharia.”

This week though alarabiya.net claimed the story had been fabricated.

It said the story came from a April 12, 2015 post on Moroccan news website Alyaoum24 which carried a story with the headline “Moroccan intends to open a Halal sex shop in Makkah.”

Alarabiya.net reported that on Twitter, Saudi blogger and Wall Street Journal reporter Ahmed al-Omran slammed the tens of international media outlets that republished the story without verifying the information.

“Just because some guy_wants_to open a halal sex store in mecca doesn’t mean he_will_or even_can_open it #ProTip,” tweeted al-Omran.

The website blamed Moroccan media.
