A 15-year-old boy was being questioned on suspicion of murdering a man stabbed to death as he walked home from work.
The boy, from Erdington, Birmingham, was arrested last night on suspicion of murdering Yajay Sudra, who was stabbed to death in an attempted mugging as he walked home from Birmingham International Airport where he worked in a book store.
Mr Sudra, 21, managed to stagger from the scene of the stabbing on Marsh Lane in Erdington to his home, where he was found by his mother on the doorstep of their home.
He died in her arms from a single stab wound to the heart following the attack on July 9.
Today, West Midlands Police said they arrested a boy on suspicion of murder at about 11pm last night in Sutton Coldfield. He is being questioned today at a Birmingham police station.
Det Insp Paul Joyce, from the force, said: “The people of Erdington have really helped us with this tragic murder inquiry. A number of people have come forward and we thank them for their help.”
”We also thank all those have called in with leads around the CCTV. All enquiries are being followed up as a matter of urgency as the major investigation continues.”
Earlier, Mr Sudra’s mother Varsha, 55, made an emotional appeal for witnesses with information to come forward.
She said: “I opened the door - he just lay in my arms. He couldn’t even say what happened to him.
”He said ‘Mum, help me, Mum’ just once and that was it. Basically, he just came to say goodbye to me.”
