Baroness Sayeda Warsi, has met with the Syrian Ambassador, Dr Sami Khiyami in London.
They discussed how Syria can use its influence with its regional neighbours to push for important progress in the Middle East Peace process.
Baroness Warsi also raised the UK’s concern about Syra's Human Rights record and they discussed the jailing of two prominent human rights defenders, Haitham Al Maleh and Muhannad al Hassani.
Following the meeting, Baroness Warsi, said: “Syria plays an important role in the Middle East. It is important that we continue to engage in a firm, frank and frequent dialogue as we encourage Syria to play a constructive role in moving towards a Syrian-Israeli peace deal.
"It has been a pleasure to meet Dr Sami Khiyami and to further discuss in practical terms how we can improve bilateral relations between the UK and Syria”.
