Faiths unite to condemn bombings


Following the recent bombings in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India a 'Prayer Meeting' for members of the Hindu and Muslim communities took place in Harrow, London.

The gathering was to condemn the bombings and to pray for peace and unity and for those who lost their lives or were injured and their families.

Thirty members from various organisations from the London boroughs of Harrow and Brent attended the event to show solidarity that these callous acts which are aimed at creating division, fear and social unrest, would not affect the social harmony enjoyed by the communities of Harrow and Brent Greater London Assembly Member, Cllr Navin Shah said: "The perpetrators of these atrocities are not Muslim, they are not Hindus or even Christians, the people that have carried out these bombings have no religion at all".

The group meeting last night in Harrow wanted to send a clear message to the people of India that the Hindu and Muslim communities are united in condemning the bombings and urging unity amongst the communities there.

Groups represented at the meeting included: National Congress of Gujarati Organisations, Pakistani Cultural Society, Harrow Hindu Association, Sangat Advice Centre, Brent Hindu Association, Hindu Forum of Britain, Hindu Council of Britain, Harrow Central Mosque, Indian Muslim Federation, Muslim Safety Forum, Stanmore Khoja Itna Shia Mosque, Cllr Navin Shah London Assembly Member, Dawn Butler MP Brent South, Sonoo Malkani Harrow Police Community Consultative Group and a number of local councillors.

The meeting was also supported by the following people: Cllr Anjana Patel; Tony McNulty MP; Barry Gardener MP; Robert Evans MEP; Gareth Thomas MP; and Len Duvall Metropolitan Police Authority.
