Fundraising for 7/7 survivor

A fundraiser was among dozens of walkers who stepped out for peace in support of a survivor of the London 7/7 bombings.

Businessman Zulfi Hussain, 46, who was given an MBE for services to charity, joined the WalkTalk event - a walk from Leeds to London to promote peace and community relations.

It was organised by campaigner Gill Hicks, who lost both her legs in the blast triggered by Jermaine Lindsay at Russell Square tube station in July 2005.

Three years later she has pledged to complete a month-long cross-country trek from Leeds to London using prosthetic legs.

The first section of WalkTalk started out from Millennium Square in Leeds, ending in Beeston, home to two of the suicide bombers.

Supporters included Gill's husband Joe Kerr and members of pressure group Together for Peace.

Among the charities which will benefit from donations collected during the walk will be Global Promise, which Zulfi formed in response to the Asian tsunami, raising more than £2 million to help survivors.

Together they will walk between ten and 20 miles a day, stopping in Dewsbury and Wakefield before heading south.
