A diabetic joined friends and dozens of others in a walk across some of London’s most iconic bridges to raise money for charity.

Aman Vaja, from Rayners Lane, explained how he wanted to do something for a good cause and give back to those who had helped him since being diagnose with Type 1 diabetes.

The 44-year-old crossed 12 of London’s most iconic bridges spanning the River Thames, starting in Battersea and finishing at the world-renowned Tower Bridge.

In completing the ten-mile journey, Aman raised an impressive £1,500 for Diabetes UK.

“It was an absolute pleasure taking part in the challenge,” he said.

“I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 14 years ago. This was life-changing and has taken me through some turbulent times over the years.

“I have always admired the work of Diabetes UK and it has supported me over the last 14 years.

“I wanted to do something in return and raise valuable funds. I would like to take this opportunity to thank ‘Team Vaja’ - Maya, Vijay, Sonal, Birju and Preya - who joined me in this challenge.”

Charlotte Harrison-Webb, fundraising manager at Diabetes UK, expressed her gratitude to Aman for taking up the challenge and raising money which will help support those living with diabetes.

She added that it was a great example of doing something to keep fit which, while important in all walks of life, is particularly significant for those with diabetes.

“Walking is a great way of keeping fit and active, and can help you to maintain a healthy.

“Getting plenty of exercise and eating healthily can also help people with diabetes to manage their condition well,” she said.
