A search is underway for the driver of people carrier believed to have been involved in a suspected hit-and-run which left a "loving father" fatally injured.

Police have now named the victim of the incident, which happened at about 1.50am on Tuesday, as married father-of-five and taxi driver Mohammed Shezad.

In a tribute, the 47-year-old's family described him as a "loving father, devoted husband and best friend to everyone".

Mr Shezad was stood next to his parked car when he struck by a vehicle on City Road, in Birmingham.

In a statement released through police, loved ones said: "Mohammed was a shining light on everyone who knew him.

"He will be missed more than words can express.

"Nothing can ever replace him, he truly was one of a kind."

West Midlands Police have appealed to the public to help trace "the driver of a dark-coloured people carrier".

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the force's collision investigation unit, said: "The vehicle is likely to have suffered damage to the front near the headlights along with the windscreen and one of the wing mirrors."

Anyone with information is urged to phone police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
