A film series showcasing the positive community spirit in Normanton Road, Derby, has been launched.
The first film features Mystic, a local grime artist who introduces life on Normanton Road.
The feature acknowledges that the area is known for its crime, but reflecting on Mystic’s experiences growing up in the area, he shows how it is a place for community and inter-faith cohesion.
Mystic highlights how although the Mosque and Church stand on opposite sides of the road, the communities are very much united.
He says: “You’ve got the Church here, and the Mosque there. There’s never been any issues, it’s all love. We respect one another.”
The following films in the series will feature Ryder, 21, a local barber and Greg, a 12-year-old from Poland who started going to Change Exchange to avoid getting into trouble on the streets.
It has been created by youth group Change Exchange, who work with disadvantaged people in inner-city areas across the East Midlands, including Derby, Burton-on-Trent, Stoke-on-Trent and Nottingham.
