The Mayor of Slough Cllr Arvind Singh Dhaliwal led the town’s Civic Service of Remembrance on Sunday.

The service at St Mary's Church and wreath laying at the War Memorial were attended by large crowds, remembering those who gave their lives in two world wars and subsequent conflicts.

After the service was over the Mayor remembered the other services that had happened simultaneously across the borough.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone who supported the Remembrance Sunday events across the borough this year. I was very proud to lead the town centre event which was extremely well attended.

"We must never forget the courage and bravery of the men and women who have served our country and we honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"The impressive uniformed parade of cadet and youth organisations comprising units from the Sea, Air and Police Cadets, Scouts and Guides together with representatives from the public and voluntary sector showed how important this annual act of remembrance is to local people."

In nearby Langley there was a reading of names from the War Memorial.

People living in the village had been invited to put forward the names of other people they would like to have read out, who has been affected by war but not recorded. This added an extra potency to the reading.

Schools and uniformed organisations took part in the parade and service, which left from outside Christ the Worker Church, Parlaunt Road leading to the service in the Memorial Park opposite the Harrow shopping centre.

The organisers had encouraged people of all faiths and none to attend this year's Remembrance Ceremony - ensuring that the whole community was represented.
