A SUPERCAR worth between £250,000 and £300,000 has been seized by police after it was driven in an “anti-social manner” in Bradford.

The yellow Lamborghini Aventador was stopped by Operation Steerside officers in Thornbury at about 11pm last Friday.

It was one of 16 vehicles seized by police last week as part of the ongoing district-wide crackdown on dangerous drivers.

The driver of the Lamborghini, a 29-year-old man from Leeds, has been reported by police for driving without due care and attention. He is not believed to be the owner of the car.

Police said his anti-social driving took place between Dawson’s Corner roundabout in Pudsey and Thornbury roundabout. He was stopped by officers at Thornbury roundabout.

Sergeant Cameron Buchan, who is leading Operation Steerside, said: “It is a shame that people cannot show more maturity when they find themselves driving such a car.

“The car is a high-performance sports car, but the law still applies to it. It is just like all the other vehicles on the road.

“The fact that this type of car can achieve higher speeds so much quicker than others just means we would expect those driving them to be more responsible.”

He added: “These cars stand out. People will remember it. How many Lamborghini Aventadors are going to be driving round Bradford? They stick in your mind.”

Last week, Steerside officers snared 108 drivers. More than half of those were for not wearing a seatbelt.

Sergeant Buchan said: “I am genuinely mystified why people do not wear seatbelts. It is a two-second procedure to grab the belt and click it.

“The type of person who deliberately doesn't wear a seatbelt is more likely to have an accident, and when they do, is more likely to be seriously injured.”

Sgt Buchan added: “People think ‘can’t you do more than seatbelts’. But starting with seatbelt offences leads to saving lives, which is what it is all about.

“And if that person remembers getting fined for not wearing a seatbelt and starts wearing it, it has been an education for them.”

Of the 108 drivers, 56 were caught driving while not wearing a seatbelt, 18 were speeding, nine were using a mobile phone at the wheel, 15 were driving without insurance, and ten were dealt with for other road-related offences.

The number pushed the Steerside grand total past 4,500 and up to 4,595. That number is broken down into: speeding 1,564; using a mobile phone at the wheel 484; not wearing a seatbelt 1,634; driving without insurance 354; other road-related offences 561.

“Again, the landmarks are coming and going,” said Sgt Buchan. “In a couple of weeks we will probably be at 5,000.

“But it is just a number to show that we are doing our job.”
