A Muslim community body is urging British Muslims to vote for the Remain Campiagn in next weeks EU Referendum.

With the finely balanced European Union vote in barely over a week, it is widely recognised that the Ethnic Minority vote could prove decisive. In particular the Muslim Vote could play a key role.

MEND (Muslim Engagement and Development) is a leading grass roots Muslim MEND has produced a Briefing Paper with an extensive analysis of how the key issues in the EU referendum debate affect the lives of British Muslims.

On the basis of this research it is recommending a vote to Remain.

MEND CEO Dr Shazad Aminsaid, “Islamophobia is a growing European problem and thus requires a European solution based on mutual cooperation, not isolationism.

"The EU has a strong track record in tackling all forms of discrimination, and in 2015 appointed a Coordinator on Anti-Muslim Hatred, David Friggieri; this shows it is taking Islamophobia seriously”.

“Leaving also risks the UK losing the benefit from the work of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, which oversees compliance with Human Rights law across Europe.

"With the Conservative Government having signalled its intention to scrap the Human Rights Act and replace it with a British Bill of Rights, such oversight will be more important than ever”.
