Gary Lineker should keep his promise to present Match of the Day in his pants now that Leicester City have won the league, Prime Minister David Cameron has said.

Mr Cameron said he "absolutely agreed" with Leicester East MP Keith Vaz, who said the former England striker should fulfil his pledge to present the football highlights show in his underwear.

Mr Vaz, who was sporting a Leicester scarf in the Commons for the second day running asked Mr Cameron at Prime Minster's Questions: "During this amazing season the local Leicester hero Gary Lineker thought the idea of Leicester winning was so far fetched that he said that if they did win, he would present Match of the Day in his underwear.

"As an Aston Villa supporter, and my commiserations to you on their season, do you agree that in politics as well in football, when you make a promise, you should keep it?"

Mr Cameron replied: "I absolutely agree.

"I've been watching everything Gary Lineker has said since - he's not quite answering the question, something that of course no-one ever gets away with in this House.

"And so I welcome what you have said, obviously I hope it's just the start of him joining the blue team."

Earlier, Mr Cameron was mocked over his football credentials by Jeremy Corbyn after he congratulated the Premier League champions on their fairytale title win.

The Labour leader seized on Mr Cameron's confusion during last year's general election over which team he supports, when he mixed up Aston Villa and West Ham, who wear similar claret and blue colours.

Mr Cameron, who has always maintained he is a supporter of Birmingham-based Villa, said he confused the two sides because he flew over West Ham's east London Boleyn Ground in a helicopter a day before the mix-up.

After the PM congratulated Leicester, Mr Corbyn said he hoped it did not mean Mr Cameron was going to start supporting a third team.

Mr Cameron said: "The whole House will wish to join me in congratulating Leicester City on winning the Premier League title - 5000-1 outsiders at the start of the season they've shown superb ability, incredible resilience and a great team ethic."

Mr Corbyn drew laughter from the Prime Minister and MPs of all sides as he retorted: "I join you in congratulating Leicester City on their amazing achievements.

"I hope it's not an indication you are going to support another football team, or are you going to stick with the two you have got already?"
