Detectives are investigating after the body of a man was found in his car boot, West Midlands Police said.

Tanveer Iqbal, 33, was discovered dead in the back of his Renault Clio in Portland Road, close to Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham, at around 2pm on Monday.

He was reported missing hours earlier, having last been seen closing his shop - Hi-Tech Music on Shireland Road, Smethwick − on Sunday evening.

Mr Iqbal's death is currently being treated as suspicious, and the car was taken away for forensic testing.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday and Mr Iqbal's family is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, who is currently leading the investigation, said: "We're working around the clock to try and piece together events leading up to this man's death.

"Portland Road is likely to remain closed until later today while my team continues to carry out an important forensic examination at the scene.

"If anyone has any information which they think may assist me with this investigation, I would urge them to get in touch as soon as they can.

"I am particularly keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen Mr Iqbal between closing his shop in Smethwick on Sunday night and the time he was discovered at lunchtime on Monday."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
