Volunteers and charity workers from across the North West have been inspired to drive to France to help refugees.

Already groups have visited Calais to deliver aid and supplies to people living in the camps there.

Volunteers from the Greengate Trust, Sunni Muslim Youth and ‘Bite-Size’ Maddrasah of Oldham have been to Calais to hand food, water, clothes and tents to refugees. They paid for the fuel and ferry costs from their own pocket and took three van loads of aid.

A total of 20 charity workers went across the channel. They are hoping to go back after having raised £12k in donations for the refugees.

In Liverpool, a Tesco community care manager donated boxes of toys and toiletries and clothes to a Muslim chaplain. When Muslim Adam Kelwick visited his local Tesco store and explained he was going to France to help refugees, staff gave him more than just a discount.

Writing on Facebook Adam said, “Instead, Shelly the community care manager decided to donate boxes and boxes of airbeds, toys, toiletries, clothes and sweets free of charge. She also offered for some volunteers to pack bags there and raise funds for a future trip!”

Adam visited the camps to deliver the supplies saying, “I still cannot believe this is happening in Western Europe!”
