Vijaya Krishna has been voted the winner of the Tooting round of the 2015 Tiffin Cup. The Tiffin Cup, is an annual Parliamentary event which celebrates the ever-expanding wealth of South-Asian cuisine on offer in the UK.

Every MP is invited to put forward the best restaurant in their constituency, and a select few of those are short-listed by mystery shopper-style judges.

These restaurants are then invited to the House of Commons, to take part in a ‘cook-off’ in one of the many outlets around Parliament.

The winner of this will be awarded 2015’s Tiffin Cup and labelled the best South Asian restaurant in the UK by the Tiffin Club.

Sadiq asked local Tooting residents to send him their nominations for their favourite restaurant. With over 22 different restaurants nominated, the votes have been counted and Sadiq has announced that Vijaya Krishna has been voted the best restaurant by Tooting residents, although the competition was very close.

Vijaya Krishna is a family run restaurant, which was first set up by Vijayan Multath over twenty years ago, and he now runs the restaurant alongside his son Biju.

Sadiq Khan MP said, “This is a fantastic competition which allows us to showcase that Tooting really is home to the best curry restaurants in the country. And in turn the competition has demonstrated that us Tootingites really love our curry, with over 20 different restaurants nominated.

“I would like to congratulate VIjaya Krishna. They are worthy winners who have been feeding the people of Tooting with delicious South Indian food for many years.

“With so many fantastic South Asian restaurants locally, I’m just glad that I didn’t have to choose! I would to thank everyone who sent in their suggestions – I will be sure to keep you updated on Vijaya Krishna’s progress throughout the competition.”

Manager, Biju Vijayan said, “Our challenge has always been to keep up the high standards we have set since we started more than two decades ago. We have so many regular faces in our restaurant who treat this place as their own home and we would like to thank them and our staff for their support in achieving this recognition.

“We would also like to thank our local MP, Sadiq Khan, for running this competition and for showing his support for local restaurants.”
