An Asian family who went into a pub and asked if they could have coffee in the garden were racially abused by a customer.
Magistrates heard David Bradley rudely suggested the family should go back to their own country.
The family left the Rose and Crown in Clitheroe but when the male member of the group returned and asked Bradley for an apology he refused and again abused the other man.
Bradley, aged 50, of Pemberton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated threatening behaviour.
He was sentenced to 28 days in prison suspended for 12 months with a 30 day rehabilitation requirement and ordered to pay £125 compensation, £80 victim surcharge and £180 criminal court charge.
