More than a hundred people fled a shisha lounge during a violent attack.

Carlton Lounge, known as Tiger Bay, was targeted late on Wednesday evening by a group of seven masked men wielding axes.

The gang, who were also armed with sledge hammers and baseball bats, smashed windows and furniture, causing around 120 customers to flee the premises.

Cars in and around the venue were also damaged by the men.

Armed police were called to the scene at 11pm to reports of a gun being used but later confirmed that there was no evidence one had been fired.

Kebab shop worker Ali Mohammad, 25, said: “I saw men in black masks smashing up cars and the windows of the shisha place.

“Hundreds of people were running out of there screaming, it was crazy. Some came into my shop and were so scared they couldn’t speak.

“Everything was smashed inside and out, even cars on the road were getting their windows smashed.”

Signs have been put up informing customers that the lounge will be closed until Tuesday April 7 following the incident.
