A former RAF serviceman has appeared in court to face a range terror charges.

Stephen Gray, 31, from Manchester, also known as Mustafa, appeared alongside paraplegic Abdal Raouf Abdallah, 21, at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

Gray, who served as a senior aircraftman in No 2 Squadron of the RAF Regiment, is charged with preparing to commit acts of terrorism, assisting another in committing acts of terrorism and funding terrorism.

Gray, who wore a blue hoodie, is accused of providing Abdallah with contact details for men believed to be in Syria and purchasing tickets to both Barcelona and Brussels.

He also allegedly bought flight tickets for a man - named Raymond Matimba - to assist him in travelling to Syria.

He is also accused of arranging for money to be transferred to another man - named Abu Mutasim - for the purchase of weapons.

Abdallah, who was dressed in a black jacket and appeared in court in a wheelchair, faces a charge of preparing to assist another in committing terrorism on or before July 31.

He allegedly arranged to provide firearms to four men including Gray, set up a contact and accommodation for them in Syria and facilitated Gray's travel to Syria via Belgium.

Abdallah is also charged with providing £2,000 to a man - namely Mohammed Abdallah - between July 16 and July 19 for terrorist purposes.

All details of the charges were included in the indictment laid before the court.

Abdallah had an application for bail refused by District Judge Emma Arbuthnot after hearing objections from prosecutor Mark Dawson.

Both men were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on December 19.
