A man from Birmingham has launched an appeal to the Asian community in a bid to find a blood stem cell donor.

Inderpal Singh, 25, who has two young children, has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and has been told he needs a blood stem cell donation.

He is appealing to others with Indian heritage to come forward and join the donor register to potentially save his life.

Inderpal said: "It's a lifesaving thing for me. It's going to save my life and let me see my kids grow up.''

Inderpal's appeal is being supported by Delete Blood Cancer UK.

Deirdra Taylor, director of communications and donor relations at the charity, said: "The registration process is very simple and involves filling out a consent form and swabbing the inside of your cheeks to collect cells which are analysed to determine a person's tissue characteristics.

"It only takes a few minutes to go on to the register of potential donors but if you are matched with Inderpal, or someone else in need, it could lead to you giving decades of life to them, and providing them with the opportunity to do all the things they had planned to do in their life."
