The Halal Food Authority (HFA) has welcomes comments by Prime Minister David Cameron with regards to halal meat.

Tweeted live on the night of the Muslim News Awards by the charitable arm Halal Food Foundation (HFF) - @HFF_UK – Mr Cameron promised to keep halal meat “safe in Britain” and ensured that whilst he is in power he will never impose restrictions on religious slaughter.

A statement from the HFA read, "We would like to take this opportunity to welcome and express our gratitude at Prime Minister David Cameron’s comments concerning Halal meat.

"These encouraging comments echo the promises the Prime Minister made in Israel last month in regards to protecting kosher meat.

"The Prime Minister’s comments come at an opportune time following Denmark’s ban on un-stunned meat and president-elect of the British Veterinary Association, John Blackwell’s comments that religious slaughter of poultry, sheep and cattle caused unnecessary suffering to animals."
