A grieving grandfather has launched an appeal for help in caching the arsonists who killed his wife and granddaughter in a terrifying inferno at his home.

On the fourth anniversary if the blaze at Little Holme Walk in Great Lever, Mumtax Chishty is calling for anyone with information about the fire to come forward.

The 75-year-old says he leads a lonely life since the death of his wife or more than 40 years and his granddaughter.

Hameeda Begum, aged 71, suffered 90 per cent burns in the blaze, which started after yobs pushed a wheelie bin against the front door of the house and set it alight on June 23 2008 at 11.30pm.

She died a short time after the fire and four-year-old Alana Mian died six weeks later in hospital.

Nobody has ever been charged with the murders despite police offering a £50,000 reward.

Mr Chisty said: "The message I want to give is for anybody who knows the people responsible or the people who did it to come forward. I think if the people responsible have a conscience and a heart they will come forward.

"I ask for them to just tell the truth."

H said a lengthy jail term for those responsible will not make a difference to him.

Mr Chishty survived the fire with just cuts to his legs.

His daughter, Saima Mian, aged 28, was seriously hurt and she still struggles to walk far, due to the smoke she inhaled and has been left with scars on her face and arm.

Anyone with information about the fatal blaze should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,
