Mosques across the UK hosted a communal dinner in a unified invitation to the wider community to #TasteRamadan.

The Myriad Foundation initiative, which worked in conjunction with over 50 mosques nationally had thousands of guests from all faiths and none including neighbours, local schools, councillors, the fire service, the police, ambulance services, interfaith groups, MP’s and MEP’s, all invited to take part in an Iftar meal.

The Iftar is the meal eaten by Muslims where they have abstained from consuming food and drinking liquids from dawn to dusk.

The event included a short talk about Ramadan, a guided tour of the mosque, an opportunity to observe the dusk prayer and enjoy a delicious meal whilst Muslims broke their fast.

Chair of the Myriad Foundation, Dominic Ball, commented on the initiative “Ramadan is blessed time for Muslims and events like Taste Ramadan is not only an opportunity to share a meal but an opportunity for local communities to share in the experience, build friendships and discover more about Islam.

"Taste Ramadan is a crucial step in open engagement and creating conversations within communities to dispel myths and tackle Islamophobia.

"This year we were supported by the charity Al Khair Foundation, it is always pleasing to see intertaional charities who do great work abroad also back local grass root initiatives such as #TasteRamadan”

Chris Weaver, a resident who attended the #TasteRamadan event stated “I think its lovely, it brings people together and shows people across the city of other faiths or non a side of Islam we do not always see and it means we share food together, share space together and share a mosque together, it’s a really good idea”
