A CAR crashed into a wall after hitting traffic railings sending debris flying into the window of a building.

Police were called at around 9.40pm yesterday after the crash involving an Audi RS3 Quattro in Barbara Castle Way in Blackburn.

The car hit the metal railings at the side of the road at the junction with Preston New Road and then ploughed into a wall near to the Capita building.

Debris from the crash also smashed one of the front windows of the Capita building, which has now been boarded up.

Officers said nobody was injured in the incident and the driver's details have been taken.

A police spokesman said: "The vehicle crashed into metal barriers and damaged a traffic island.

"The car has also hit a wall.

"Debris from the car also damaged the Capita building window.

"The council were on the scene at 11.40pm to complete repairs.

"We have spoken to the driver and exchanged details.

"We are still investigating what happened but it appears the car has come off the road and hit the railings."

The car involved is the rally sport version of the family hatchback the Audi A3 and is capable of reaching 0-60mph in four seconds and its speed is capped at 155mph.
