A man who is registered blind claims he is being left homeless because no-one is willing to take responsibility to accommodate him.

Mohammed Razzaq, aged 47 has returned to Blackburn after living in Birmingham for two years.

He says that despite being blind in one eye and having special needs he has not been offered suitable accommodation by the local council.

He said, “I am registered blind and I use a walking cane.

“I lived in Birmingham but I left due to unforeseen circumstances and came to Blackburn.

“I have just been pushed from one agency to another and ended up at the Salvation Army. It seems no-one wants to take responsibility.

“I need a flat to live in and a carer to take care of me.

“I have spoken to the Council and Adult Social Services but at the moment nothing has been done.”

He says he ended up sleeping on a hospital couch for 27 hours last week.

“It has been a horrible experience for me. I went to hospital and I was seen to by mental health specialists.

“They said there were no rooms available at the hospital.

“I was told I had 67 previous convictions but I am a changed man and that should not have any bearing on if I am given a home or not.

“I have been feeling really low. I have nobody to help me. I need a home.

“I will end up living on the street. In a town where there are so many Mosques should this be taking place? I need someone to help me before I end up homeless.”

Mr Razzaq was staying with his sister and says she does not have the capacity to keep him.

“She can’t keep me here. I have been in hospital all weekend but still no-one is helping me.”
