A BMW driver who ranted at a woman who clipped his car has been fined for shouting racist abuse at a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene.

Mohammed Khan swore at the man and called him a 'white pig' in front of his young son outside The Mall shopping centre, Blackburn magistrates heard.

The court was told the outburst prompted the victim’s young son to ask: “Why is that man being naughty, why is he shouting at daddy?”

The 33-year-old, of Rimington Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated threatening behaviour.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Connor Booth had been sitting in his car with his son waiting for his wife to return from the shops when the incident happened.

He saw a female driver attempting to park in a space and, as she did, she clipped the wing mirror of a BMW.

“She got out of her car and waited for the driver of the other car which was the defendant,” said Miss Allan. “The woman appeared to be leaving a note for the car owner when Khan arrived.

“He was angry and appeared to be shouting at the woman.”

Mr Booth wound his window down and said there was no need for his behaviour because it had been a genuine accident.

Khan, 33, replied: “Nobody asked you.”

He walked away but stopped, raised his arms in the air and shouted further racist abuse.

“The car owner said she was simply trying to explain what had happened,” said Miss Allan.

Khan was fined £187 and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £85 costs.

Imran Hussain, defending, said his client was extremely apologetic and remorseful about the language he used on the day.

“He came out of The Mall and found his car had been damaged,” said Mr Hussain

“He was dealing with the situation when he says the aggrieved rolled down his window and began to challenge him.

“He accepts he should not have used the language that he did.”

Passing sentence magistrates said there was distress caused to the young child who witnessed the incident and there was potential for it to escalate into violence.
