Children from the Abu Hanifah Foundation (AHF) presented members of the emergency services with hampers, framed pictures and special cards to thank them for their efforts.

The gifts were part of the youngsters’ studies on civic duty, public service and how to be exemplary British citizens.
Pupils from the Foundation based in Preston New Road, Blackburn visited the Fire Service, the police, the Ambulance Service and met with local nurses who each received a framed picture.

The frame contained part of a verse quoted from The Koran, Chapter 5, Verse 32 which states, “Whoever saves one life, saves all of humanity”.

Dr Khalid Haq, an A&E consultant, said: “It is a very poignant and apt quotation which will take pride of place in the doctors and nurses office.”

Dr Khalid Master, chairman of AHF who accompanied the group, said: “It was lovely to see the children interact with the emergency service personnel, who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us on a daily basis.

"Many of them feel beleaguered, understaffed and overburdened under the austerity measures.

"So we hoped that acknowledging their vital work through our visit and giving them these small gifts went some way to recognising this fact and act as a token of our eternal gratitude.”
