Pupils from a Manchester school held an event to show solidarity with those affected by the bombing in the city.

The local community of Cheetham gathered together on Tuesday 23 May following the bombing at the Manchester Arena the night before.

At 2.35pm local Headteachers, staff and students from the community and members of local places of worship joined the staff and students of Temple Primary School to stand in unity and solidarity, observing a one minute silence.

Colourful balloons with messages of peace were released after the minute silence, and the group chanted ‘Stand together for Manchester’ affirming the strong sense of community spirit.

Shaghafta Talib, Deputy Head of Temple Primary School said, “It was a joint effort to show unity by getting the community together during these difficult times and for the children to remember the key messages of togetherness and solidarity when thinking about the tragic event of Monday 22nd May.”

All classes were given the opportunity to create cards and write prayers and heartfelt messages for the victims of the attack. These have been placed with flowers outside Manchester Arena for the public to see and read.

Children in years 5 and 6 took part in an assembly in the morning where they talked about the difference between facts and opinions, and together thought of ideas for supporting those who have been affected.

There are plans to raise money for the charity related to the tragedy later in the year.
