SIX people were taken to hospital after a dramatic car crash last night.

Four cars were involved in the horrific collision in Halliwell Road, Bolton, shortly before 11pm on Friday, which also caused damage to an Indian takeaway shop.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Six other people were taken to hospital for further treatment, but none suffered life-threatening injuries.

Two men, one of whom – a 34-year-old – suffered head injuries, had to be rescued from their cars by emergency service personnel.

The other, thought to be a man in his 60s, is said to have suffered spinal injuries in the crash, which happened at the junction of Halliwell Road and Weymouth Street.

A total of seven people were involved in the incident, five of whom managed to get out of their vehicles before the fire service arrived.

The smash caused substantial damage to the gable end of The New Curry House, which fire crews worked to make safe following an assessment by a Bolton Council building inspector.

Two fire crews from Bolton Central station attended the scene, as well as one from Bolton North station and a specialist rescue unit from Leigh.

The road was shut until 3.30am while police cleared the scene of debris.

The four cars involved in the incident were a silver Audi A4 convertible, a dark-coloured Citroen Picasso, a white BMW, and a green Vauxhall Zafira.

Tony McKenna, watch manager at Bolton Central station, said: “Six people who were involved in the crash were taken to hospital for further treatment.

“Because of the damage to the gable end of the property, a local authority building inspector attended to assess the situation. The fire service assisted in making the building safe and, in total, crews were at the scene for around two hours.”
