Several worshippers have been injured after an incident outside one of the biggest mosques in Blackburn.

A video being shared on social media shows two elderly gentlemen being treated for injuries in the entrance to the Tauheedul Islam mosque based on Bicknell Street in the town.

The incident which took place at Asr prayer time on Friday February 3 does not appear to be race related and witnesses say a man of Sudanese background when challenged started attacking worshippors at the entrance to the mosque.

It appears the man had a history of mental health issues.

The video shows small amounts of blood on the steps on the entrance to the mosque.

The incident was quickly under control and the community is being urged not to panic.

One of the elderly men who was attacked said, "I am completely shaken by the attack. It was unprovoked.

"This man was just telling us to get out of the mosque then started hitting us.

"The mosque is open to everyone."

A worshipper told us, "We have always been welcoming to all. This man has been coming to the mosque for a week and telling people to leave and saying it is my mosque.

"It unacceptable to treat any fellow worshippers in this way.

"It seems though he has mental health issues."
