"I am overwhelmed by the support the men in my family have shown me, my dad, both my granddads, my uncles and my brother.

"It's very important to have male support as it shows that not all males oppose women in public life., the communities of Chorley East have shown so much support and have Elected me.

"Chorley Labour Party have been very supportive.

"But I must say that my inspiration is my mum CLLR Hasina Khan who has encouraged and inspired me into this position, a successful woman who was elected the first Muslim woman councillor in 2006.

"I look forward to my term in office on Chorley Council."

Cllr Hasina said, "It's a really proud moment for me and my family.

"It's truly amazing that a young woman has been elected and in particular a young Muslim. I am hoping this now sets a trend to encourage more Muslim women into politics.

"But I must urge parents and family members in particular the men to support and encourage women to contribute into public life."
