A MOTHER is organising a charity Bollywood Ball in Bradford after being inspired by a devoted couple who live next door to her.

Sajeela Shah said her neighbour, John Julian, 87, was a hero for his 91-year-old wife, Dorothy, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2001.

"John and Dorothy are like family to me. John is a wonderful, caring man. He is so dedicated to Dorothy, he is my hero," said the 35-year-old, who teaches at Benton Park School in Rawdon.

"There are lots of Johns and Dorothys out there and I wanted to do something to raise awareness and help," added Miss Shah, of Greenbank Avenue, Horsforth.

Tickets for the Bollywood-themed event are £25 and include a dinner and disco. There will also be a raffle and auction.

Proceeds from the glitzy ball, which will be held on Saturday, September 12 at the Aagrah Midpoint Suite in Thornbury, will go to the Alzheimer's Society.

Anyone interested in buying tickets for the black-tie evening, which runs from 6pm to midnight, or offering prizes for the raffle and auction should e-mail sajeelashah@hotmail.com.
