Greater Manchester Police has thanked the community after Eid celebrations passed without incident.

It is estimated that several thousand people of all ages attended celebrations in Rusholme and just eight people were arrested during the course of the weekend, all for traffic related incidents.

Superintendent Steve Howard said: “There was a great atmosphere throughout the weekend and everyone was in high spirits as they celebrated the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.

“There were only eight arrests during the weekend, all relating to the use of vehicles and no arrests made in the heart of the celebration on Wilmslow Road, which is a great success given the number of people in attendance.

“We’re privileged that so many people choose to celebrate here in Manchester and I’d like to thank the community for ensuring celebrations were largely trouble-free and Rusholme remains a safe place for visitors.”
