A MOB hurled bricks at a Halliwell takeaway after the owner was jailed for child abduction.

Lukman Miah was imprisoned for two years at Bolton Crown Court on Monday - then, the next day, four men smashed the windows of the New Curry House in Halliwell Road by throwing bricks at them.

They then went inside the takeaway, which was run by Miah, and hurled objects at staff.

One shop assistant behind the counter was hit with a brick and suffered minor injuries.

Police were called at 10.50pm but by that time the attackers had fled along nearby Wynne Street.

A police spokesman said no one has been arrested but enquiries were ongoing.

The owner of a nearby business nearby, who asked not to be named, said: "I had heard that a few men came out of the Claremont pub and smashed the windows following the man being jailed.

"It seems strange that someone comes along and smashes all the windows up when the takeaway did not have anything to do with it."

Miah was caught on November 30 last year by farmer Graeme Wilson when he confronted him on his driveway in Cox Green Lane, Egerton.

The car was said to smell strongly of cannabis and Mr Wilson had noticed piles of rubbish outside his land in the past.

The girls were said to have been in his car on a number of occasions over a period of more than two months.

Their parents had made efforts to tell him not to contact them again.

Miah, aged 29, of Begonia Avenue, Farnworth, said he had no sexual motive for having the girls in his car, and claimed he knew one of them because their parents ordered from his takeaway.

He gave the girls money, chocolate and sweets, as well as cannabis, the court heard.

Miah's brother, Mizan Ali, aged 25, also of Begonia Avenue, was given a 10-month sentence, suspended for a year, after admitting perverting the course of justice.
