A Muslim TV channel says a clip where a religious TV host says you shouldn’t ‘mix with Wahhabi’s’ is over two years old.

The programme clip also sees a caller ask the host if it is okay to call Wahhabi’s ‘Wobblers’ – to which the host replies ‘Yeah, of course you can’.

The clip has been circulated across the Muslim community in recent days on WhatsApp and via social media.

The apparent differences between the Wahhabi and Sunni sects within the Muslim community has been a source of contention for some people.

‘Wobblers’ is a derogatory term used to refer to those seen as Wahhabis.

A statement from the Ummah Channel on their Twitter account read, “A short clip from the programme ‘Your questions answered’ which airs on the Ummah Channel surfaced the net where certain sentiments were made about the Wahhabi sect.

“This video was aired over two and half years ago and has never been shown again on the Ummah Channel.

“The matter has been dealt with and the scholar in question was reprimanded as soon as the programme finished over two and half years ago.”

In the clip the caller asks “I just wanted to know, because I have a few Wahhabi friends, is it alright if I can socialise with them? To which the presenter replies,

“Not really. It depends to what extent they are involved in their mazhab.”

The caller then states, “They're very strict in their aqeedah.”

The presenter is heard saying, You're playing with fire sister by doing that. And you are endangering your imaan. And this is the advice and the commands given by Allah (swt) in the Quran and the hadith by rasoolallah (saw).

“Because most of the brothers and sister who are originally sunnis and then gradually by associating with those people from other factions and sects, it will lead to you yourself, without having the knowledge, gradually you will begin to become one of them and begin to adopt their beliefs.”

The caller is also told not to invite 'Wahhabis over for dinner.

“No, you shouldn't be associating with them because of that. You're going to be not complying and contradicting and showing disobedience to the versus of the Quran and to the hadith, the sayings and commands of rasoolallah (saw).”

And when asked, “Oh. And another question.

Can we call them 'wobblers' or not?” The presenter says, “ Yeah, of course you can.”
