Residents in Lancashire have vented their frustrations at some 'inconsiderate' Asian wedding celebrations, with one resident describing a late night firework display as 'sounding like a war zone'.

A resident from Barrowford took to Facebook to post a video of the sounds which awoke him at 1:30 am on Sunday 24th August.

The display was part of a post ceremony celebration and has been a feature in recent summers around mainly Asian neighbourhoods with an increasing number of Asian weddings taking place each year. One resident from Nelson said; “I was so mad, woke my child up. There was loads going off all at once! I just wasn't impressed because it took me along time to get her back to sleep she is only three.”

Her views were shared by many residents from different parts of Pendle with some having to deal with an aftermath of waking children and frightened animals.

Another also of Nelson had to comfort his four year old boy after the sound frightened him.

People as far away as Harle Syke reported hearing the sounds which went on for several minutes.

One woman called the fireworks “extreme” as she said they had been going off since Wednesday.

Some people called for the law to be changed regarding fireworks at weddings with one woman saying that despite sleeping through the recent bout she had been disturbed by them last year.

The law states that except on a very limited number of special days using fireworks between 11pm and 7am is illegal and people caught letting them off can be fined up to £5,000 or six months in jail. Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson who highlighted the issue with the police as far back as April 2014, said; “Late night fireworks are an anti-social nuisance. Even if they are let off as part of a celebration, people are being kept awake all hours and are angry nothing has been done about it."

He mentioned how the police have agreed to look into reported incidents of late-night fireworks in the past six months, adding; “I’m pleased the police are looking into this. What’s happening is against the law and needs to stop".

Residents also complained about the “boy racers” who have been seen driving around the Pendle area in expensive Supercars. Steve Astin described the spectacle as more akin to, “footballers wives than traditional weddings.”

He added; “The fireworks are a hassle at night but I'm more concerned about the morons tearing around on public roads at speeds in excess of 70mph in cars they can't really handle.

“The Lomeshaye area (Nelson) last night sounded like Le mans”, he added.

Maria from Colne captured some footage of the boy racers who she described seeing in a drag race scenario, “going at some speed up Reedyford Rd (Nelson) side by side.”

Some residents also complained that the authorities were not taking action against what is becoming a constant blight in the summer months.

Roy Matthews from Nelson encouraged residents to contact the council and the crime commissioner to find out why no action is ever taken.

Members of the local Asian community were also unimpressed by what they saw as inconsiderate behaviour.

Mubasher from Nelson called the displays 'backwards' before adding that, 'some Asians have made up their own wedding traditions in an effort to try to impress and outdo each other. Manawar from Nelson also mentioned how he had been on many an online thread to persuade people that it was not a good thing to do.

“It also infuriates me when people insinuate that we Asians agree with this anti social behaviour.”
