Community group One Voice has received an award for Excellence in Public Health in recognition of the organisations work on the Baiter Sehat campaign.

The awards, sponsored by the Department of Health highlight local efforts to raise awareness of public health and recognise the great number of people who are actively engaged in charitable or voluntary work within their local community.

The award presentation took place at the House of Lords. Also in attendance were Lord Victor Adebowale and Jane Ellison MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health.

Chairman of One Voice, Khalid Saifullah said, "I am delighted that One Voice has received an award for Excellence in Public Health.

This award recognises the vital contribution made by the Baiter Sehat campaign in helping the local BME community of Blackburn and Darwen. This prestigious award will give us the opportunity to further raise awareness of our work."

One Voice is a community development charity that promotes greater civic engagement and social cohesion, particularly amongst the most deprived and disadvantaged people of Blackburn.

One Voice through the Baiter Sehat campaign has launched numerous community education and key health initiatives in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

These include organ donation, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, forced marriage and shisha and tobacco smoking.
