Brothers jailed for travel agent's murder

Three brothers were jailed for life for murdering a travel agent during a robbery.

Mohammed Raheem, 28, was targeted by Igor Irinel, 24, in a gay pub in central London, in May, last year.

He pretended to befriend Mr Raheem and spent the night at his flat in West Norwood, south London.

But the next day, he called his brothers, Sorin Abuculesei, 33, and Savu Abuculesei, 31.

They broke into the flat, collected items such as jewellery and a DVD recorder to steal and waited for Mr Raheem to return from work to rob him of cash.

Mr Raheem, described as friendly and trusting, was found dead the following day.

His jaw had been broken and he was tied to his bed. He was lying face down on the floor and had suffocated because his breathing had been restricted by a gag.

Judge Jeremy Roberts said Mr Raheem took at least two hours to die in pain and agony.

He told the Romanian brothers: "You took part in a cruel and wicked murder."

He jailed all three for life with Irinel to serve a minimum term of 30 years, Sorin to serve 28 years minimum and Savu - who had pleaded guilty - to 23 years.

Irinel, of Tottenham, north London, worked as a builder and had been in Britain for five years. He was married with a baby.

His brothers had only been in Britain for three days when they murdered Mr Raheem.
