Temple lead thieves hunted

A RELIGIOUS leader has called on thieves to return lead worth £3,000 which was stolen from the roof of a Bolton temple.

The president of Krishna Temple in Beverley Road, Heaton said worshippers will struggle to find the cash to pay for the repairs.

Navin Patel, aged 58, said: "They should bring back the lead or pay for it. It was not theirs to take.

"We will have to get the roof repaired quickly or it will start to leak.

"Someone is making a good living out of this.

"We are run by volunteers and charity donations.

"Our members will have to fork out £3,000 to £4,000.

"It is not easy to collect this kind of money."

A secretary of the temple found the lead had been stolen and alerted the police on Monday morning.

A dome above the door had been stripped of lead.

The thieves are thought to have struck on Sunday night or the early hours of Monday morning. Police are now investigating.
