Community heroes and champions were honoured at this year’s Fusion awards.

This year’s event was sold out two weeks before yesterday and saw over 350 guest pack into the Premier Suite, at Ewood Park, Blackburn to recognise people from across the community.

The annual event aims to reward the north wests volunteers, charity champions, business and sports heroes.

This year’s event saw Bolton boxer Haroon Khan picked-up the Shahi Qila sponsored Achievement in Sport Award. Polish community worker Magdalena Stryjewska was awarded the Blackburn with Darwen Community cohesion Award. And Safiya Hussain of Noparkingfine.co.uk was presented the Enterprise4all Ltd Entrepreneur of the year.

Rifat Salem and Wendy Smith were joint winners of the BAE systems Woman of the Year award. The Twin Valley Homes Community Group of the year honour went to Lancaster based ‘The Abaseen Foundation UK’.

The Asian Image Mumtaz Ellahi Community Sports Award went to dedicated league organisers Eddie and Sylvia Hart.
