Double British National Taekwondo Champion Pooja Vadhva has just added another accolade to her growing list of accomplishments.

Pooja was presented with the Achievement in Sport Award at the 2017 Fusion Awards.

The twelve awards at Fusion aimed to celebrate community cohesion and the contribution of all communities and were hosted by ITV presenter Sam Ali Khan.

Five individuals were honoured with special honours from sport to education.

Pooja, 22, is a Taekwondo champion who only took up the sport four years ago and already has set her sights set on competing at the 2020 Olympics.

Pooja started competing in 2014 and has been crowned double British National Champion. 

In her first year of competing she bagged six medals as well as representing England at the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Pooja who hails from Manchester, went to school and college in Preston but is presently studying for a Masters degree in Physics at Manchester University.

Pooja has an intense fitness and training regime and it is something her university has accommodated. Her final year has been split into two years to enable her to train more. 

She began training an hour twice a week and gradually increased and now spends 16 hours a week training.

Pooja said, "It is great to win this award as there are not many British Asian women in this sport at international level.

"I would like to thank my coaches for their continuing support and my mum for putting up with me!"

"I want to keep working hard and training hard on the road to Tokyo and inspire as many people as I can."
