Inspirational Rashmi Barker was named AMT Lawyers supported Woman of the Year at Fusion 2015.
Rashmi’s dream came true when she bought a device specially designed for riders with little or no leg movement. And it has helped her to raise funds for her chosen disability charity.
Rashmi was born in Tanzania and was diagnosed with Polio when she was just 18-months-old. She contracted polio after an outbreak in the city where she lived. Although medics were able to save her, the condition had spread up to her hips and severely reduced her mobility, meaning she had to wear a full length metal caliper on her left leg.
Through her life she has aimed to change the perception of disabled people and in 2015 decided to raise money for ‘EMpowered People’ a disability cycling charity.
Rashmi has used her hand-powered bike. She took part in the World Tour of Anglesey which entailed a 111.7 mile cycle from Crewe to RAF Valley at Holyhead.
.
Not only has Rashmi raised money for the charity, but she has continuously inspired and motivated so many other people with limited mobility. Rashmi continues to work enthusiastically in this capacity.
