Doctor Yasmin Sajjad was the recipient of the Public Service Award at Fusion 2015.

This year’s Public Service Award was presented to a specialist in male and female infertility, andrology, assisted conception, reproductive endocrinology and recurrent miscarriage.

Dr Yasmin Sajjad is a medical graduate from Khyber Medical College in Pakistan and is presently a Consultant Gynaecologist and sub specialist in reproductive medicine and surgery.

Yasmin moved to the UK in 1987. However, it wasn’t until 1995 having had 3 children that she was able to start work as a doctor.

Since 1999, Yasmin has had specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Yasmin has also conducted research in assisted conception (IVF) and has submitted a doctoral thesis into the research in the field of assisted conception for which she was awarded an MD.

She was also awarded the CCT followed by CCST in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in 2007 by the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London.

Yasmin’s work has been published widely on many aspects of gynaecology and reproductive medicine, and has presented as well as chaired many sessions both nationally and internationally in various aspects of her specialty.

More recently she opened the Cheshire Fertility Centre.

On winning the award Dr Sajjad said, “Honesty, I can’t describe the feeling.

“I am really humbled to be chosen as the winner.”

She said of work, “I try to do as much voluntary work as possible alongside my busy commitments. I do lot of work in for the community in Pakistan too as well as here.

“I also look to train midwives, nurses and doctors to help improve the infant mortality.”

The judges said, “Dr Yasmin Sajjad’s work is exceptionally inspirational.

"She has made a very positive impact on the lives of people in her community and back in Pakistan, helping those in need.

"She also has had to overcome huge barriers in her life to achieve her goals She particularly impressed with her enthusiasm, passion and perseverance in pursuing her dream job.”
