Writer Tamsin Winter helped to inspire pupils on a visit to the Olive School.

The author of novel 'Being Miss Nobody' who also works as a secondary school teacher, delivered an assembly with pupils in Years 5 and 6 at the School in Blackburn around themes in her book, which deals with bullying and selective mutism, an anxiety disorder.

She then ran writing workshops with Year 5 pupils.

Year 6 pupil Hafsa Ali said, “I love reading books so it was fantastic to have a famous author in our school teaching us, looking at our writing and reading to us all.”

Susannah Berry, Deputy Principal of The Olive School, added, “It was amazing to see the smiles and enthusiasm from our pupils and be inspired to become authors themselves.  Let’s hope we have produced some future authors!”

While visiting The Olive School, Tamsin Winter also attended the school’s end of term Big Star, Little Star assembly.

She presented certificates to pupils for excelling in The Olive School’s STAR values of Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect.

Tamsin Winter said, “I was delighted to take part in the Big Star Little Star assembly; it was great to hear about the achievements the children had received.

"The children who took part in my workshop were imaginative and creative. It was a pleasure to visit a school that values Service, Teamwork, Ambition, and Respect.”
