STUDENTS heard first-hand testimony of the Holocaust from two survivors.
Eden Girls School in Bath Road, Slough, listened to the story of Bob and Ann Kirk, who were brought to the UK as children to escape the Nazi death camps.
Mrs Kirk, 89, born Hannah Kuhn, arrived through the Kindertransport, a scheme that transported Jewish children into the country to live with foster parents.
Mr Kirk, born Rudolf Kirchheimer, arrived through the same system in 1939, aged 13. He went on to join the Royal Artillery, training as a gunner and using his languages to interrogate German prisoners of war.
Their visit was arranged by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET). One student, Zahra Mahamud, said: “The Kirks were inspirational.”
The principle of Eden Girls’ School, Karim Murcia, said: “Our school is privileged to have heard first-hand from two Holocaust survivors whose moving accounts prompted discussion topics and related learning opportunities.
“Our pupils listened with great maturity to Mr and Mrs Kirk’s accounts and used the opportunity to ask questions to help deepen their understanding of this incredibly bleak period in history.”
