Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School (TIBHS) was shortlisted in two categories at the national TES Schools Awards.

The school’s Principal, Mubaaruck Ibrahim was also in the running for the Headteacher of the Year award.

Winners were announced at a ceremony in London on the evening of Friday 23 June.

Mr Ibrahim, who has been with TIBHS since January 2014, was delighted the school occupied two spots on the awards’ shortlist.

He said, “For our school to have made the awards shortlist is testament to the hard work of all members of staff across the school, and to our students who achieve excellent results year in, year out.

“It’s very humbling to also be shortlisted personally; I feel very proud.”

TIBHS is among the highest performing schools in the country: in the summer of 2016 TIBHS’ first GCSE cohort did the school proud with 95% of pupils gaining grades A* to C in English and maths.

TIBHS is also in the top 1% of all UK schools for progress and overall performance, according to data against the Government’s new Progress 8 measure which tracks pupils’ performance between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4.

Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Tauheedul Education Trust, the multi-academy trust that runs TIBHS, added: “TIBHS goes from strength to strength. After being ranked third nationally in the Government’s Progress 8 league table earlier in the year, for the school to now be shortlisted for a national award is incredibly gratifying.”

Commenting on the school principal’s shortlisted in the Headteacher of the Year category, Mufti Hamid Patel added: “Tauheedul Education Trust is well known for its very high standards of leadership and Mubaaruck exemplifies these. He deserves his place on the awards shortlist and I congratulate him.”

Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School in Shadsworth Road, Blackburn is one of the country’s top-performing schools, having been ranked third nationally in the Government’s Progress 8 league table earlier in the year.
